Prosecution outlines Air India bombing case
Prosecutors in Vancouver have been outlining their case against two Canadian-based Sikhs who are accused of involvement in the 1985 destruction of an Air India flight over the Atlantic. Three-hundred-and-twenty-nine people died when a bomb exploded on the India-bound airliner. The court hearing, which is subject to a strict reporting ban, is considering a defence application for the two Sikhs -- Ajaib Singh Bagri and Ripudamen Singh Malik -- to be granted bail. They were arrested in October and have been charged with eight offences, including murder. Canada, where the flight originated, blames the bombing on Sikh extremists responding to an Indian army assault in 1984 on the Golden Temple complex at Amritsar.
