Warning after major electrical theft

The trailer was found abandoned in south Belfast
Police investigating the theft of £50,000 worth of electrical equipment from Dublin Port have recovered part of the load in Belfast.

The consignment, including freezers, washing machines and refrigerators, tumble dryers, microwave ovens and extractor fans, were on a trailer which was found empty and abandoned off the Boucher Road in south Belfast.

The thieves struck when the trailer was left in a secure car park at the docks.

The goods had just been shipped to Dublin from Britain and were intended for Northern Ireland shops.

The police said information from the public led to the discovery of some of the items from trailer on Friday evening.

Warning to public

They have renewed their appeal for help in recovering the rest of the goods and are advising people to be cautious if approached by anyone selling the equipment.

RUC Chief Inspector Tom Haylett said: "I would advise members of the public who may be offered these goods: please do not take them on board.

"They could be faulty. They could be damaged. They would certainly not be guaranteed. At very worst people could be handling stolen property as well. Please report them to the police."

The police have said they are studying security footage from both Dublin docks and Falcon Road off the Boucher Road, where the empty trailer was abandoned.
