American experts join Taiwan virus investigation

American experts have gone to Taiwan to help investigate a virus which is killing children.

The fast-spreading virus Enterovirus 71 -- the symptoms of which include fever, skin rash and ulcers -- has killed at least thirty children in the past few weeks.

Specialists say there could be as many as three-hundred-thousand cases.

Last week the authorities in Taiwan set up a centralised control team to study the disease.

Scientists are also examining connections with a similar intestinal illness which broke out in Malaysia last year.
