Votes being counted after Sudan election
Votes are being counted in Sudan after a ten-day general election. Officials said the counting would continue day and night and the results announced on Monday. They said special telephone lines were being set up to collate the results as quickly as possible. The election was boycotted by the main opposition parties and turn-out was reported to be very low. In the presidential election, President Omar al-Bashir is seeking a second term. His challengers include a former military ruler, Jaafar Nimeiri, but observers say there's little doubt Mr Bashir will win. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
