Bush names attorney-general
The American President-elect, George W. Bush, has named the man he wants to be his attorney-general in his incoming administration. He is John Ashcroft -- who lost his seat as senator from Missouri in November's election. Announcing the nomination, Mr Bush called Mr Ashcroft a man of deep convictions and strong principles. Mr Ashcroft was twice governor of Missouri and once state attorney general. He lost his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate in a race against the late Democrat Governor Mel Carnahan, who died in an air crash shortly before votes were cast. Mr Carnahan's widow is taking over his seat. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
