The sword used in the fight
The sword is being held as evidence
A 51-year-old Pontypool man was freed on bail on Friday when he appeared in court after an incident in which a man was attacked with a sword in Varteg on Tuesday.

Anthony Williams, of Samsons Avenue, Varteg, was heavily bandaged to his head, arms and shoulder as he faced charges of causing grievous bodily harm and resisting police.

He was given bail by Newport Magistrates, on condition that he lives with a family friend in Rhyl, does not communicate with prosecution witnesses, does not return to the Torfaen area other than to see his solicitor or appear in court.

He also has to report to police in Rhyl three times a week.
