Man remanded over Pc murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Kent policeman Jon Odell who died after being hit by a car while carrying out road safety checks.

Unemployed Wayne Rule, 24, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody by Folkestone magistrates in Kent.

He will reappear at Dover magistrates on 29 December. No application for bail was made.

Pc Odell, 30, was conducting road safety checks with six other officers in Margate when he was hit by a car just after midnight on 19 December.

Pc Odell, who was born in Felixstowe, Suffolk and lived in Margate with his partner and her 13-year-old son, died despite being rushed to the town's Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital for emergency surgery.
