Madonna's Highland fling

Some twelve hours after the event, it's finally been confirmed that the American pop star Madonna and the British film director Guy Ritchie have indeed married.

Journalists from around the world had descended on the small Highland town of Dornoch, in northern Scotland, to cover the wedding.

But the tight security around the secluded castle where the wedding took place meant that reporters had to wait until Saturday morning before receiving confirmation from the minister who performed the ceremony. Correspondents say the cautious approach may have been adopted in reaction to the media coverage of Madonna's wedding to Sean Penn, when television helicopters drowned out their wedding vows.
