A spokesman for the Sri Lankan army says government forces have launched a fresh offensive against rebel Tamil Tigers in the north of the island. The offensive comes hours after the rebel side made a surprise offer of a one month unilateral ceasefire to start at midnight on Sunday. As the BBC's Frances Harrison reports, it seems the army is trying to capture as much territory as it can in advance of the ceasefire.
