Stage set for Madonna's big day

The stage is set for the star-studded marriage of Madonna and her film director fiancé Guy Ritchie in the Highland burgh of Dornoch on Friday.

The couple's baby son Rocco took centre stage on Thursday when he was baptised at Dornoch Cathedral.

However, two arrests have marred the carnival atmosphere which has surrounded events so far.

Police have confirmed they have charged two men, both from the south of England, with a number of offences.

Gwyneth Paltrow
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow will be chief bridesmaid
A 33-year-old was arrested in Dornoch in the early hours of Friday morning.

A 51-year-old was detained on Thursday evening after he tried to leave Dornoch Cathedral.

Police said that reports that the baptism ceremony was disrupted were untrue.

Both men are to appear in court at a later date.

Madonna and Ritchie will be hoping for a trouble-free day on Friday when their £1.5m marriage ceremony takes place behind closed doors at Skibo Castle.

Some locals have already dubbed the castle "Colditz" because of the tight security that has been put in place in the days leading up to the marriage, which has thrust the area into the media spotlight.

Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney is thought to have designed the dress
Madonna's own security team, headed by a former British commando, has been joined by back-up teams from Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Heat-seeking thermal equipment targets intruders and a giant searchlight covers the main entrance.

The service will be conducted by local minister the Reverend Susan Brown, who also performed the baptism of Rocco on Thursday.

Shakespeare in Love star Gwyneth Paltrow is lined up to be chief bridesmaid.

Footballer-turned-actor Vinnie Jones, who starred in the director's film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, is expected to be Ritchie's best man.

Stella McCartney, who designs for Paris fashion house Chloe, is believed to have created Madonna's wedding dress.

Star-studded guest list

The roll-call of famous names due to attend the ceremony also includes singer/songwriter Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, who introduced Madonna and Ritchie during a party at her north London home in 1998.

Other big names tipped to attend include Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney, and movie stars Robin Williams, Rupert Everett and Brad Pitt.

Pitt was affected by delays as he flew in on Thursday when fog forced his plane to make a detour to the Royal Air Force base at Kinloss 25 miles away.

Madonna's parents and the wedding cake were also affected.

Rock stars Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams have both been spotted flying in to Inverness Airport for the event, while Elton John is also expected to attend.

Braved the cold

French photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who took the pictures for Madonna's latest album, is rumoured to be the wedding photographer.

Hundreds of fans braved the cold on Thursday to gather outside Dornoch Cathedral in the hope of catching a glimpse of baby Rocco and his mother.

Some even climbed trees to get a bird's eye view of the celebrities attending the christening.

The fans were joined in their quest by the world's media, who will now switch their attention to Skibo for the wedding ceremony.
