Pet food men in British court

A court in Britain has convicted five men of a multi-million dollar fraud which involved selling meat intended as pet food to the public.

The meat, which was unfit for human consumption, included chicken and turkey.

It was sold to butchers, restaurants and supermarkets across the United Kingdom.

The jury at Hull in northern England was told that the risk to public health was huge.

Environmental health officers began to suspect something was wrong after checking on poultry being sold by one particular butcher in Rotherham.

One inspector said that the smell from some of the rotting meat was so bad that she was physically sick.

The five men convicted of the offences are being sentenced on Friday.
