Bail for 'leading' Real IRA accused
![]() Dublin's Special Criminal Court
A man described in court as a leading member of the Real IRA, has been released on bail in Dublin.
Liam Campbell, 38, from Upper Faughart near Dundalk in County Louth, is facing trial on a charge of IRA membership. As part of his bail conditions he was ordered to turn up twice a day at Dundalk police station and to surrender his passport. A night-time curfew was also imposed on him by the court and he was ordered not to associate with anyone connected to illegal organisations. Mr Campbell is due to stand trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin next October and denies the charge against him. He was arrested in October by Irish detectives as part of an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activities. The dissident republican Real IRA is opposed to the peace process in Northern Ireland and to the Good Friday Agreement.
