Nepalese police injured in accident

More than 60 riot police were injured - seven of them critically - when the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned in the eastern Nepalese town of Biratnagar.

The cause of the accident is not yet clear, but the truck was said to have been over-loaded.

It was taking police reinforcements from the nearby town of Itahari to Biratnagar, where dozens of people have been injured in recent clashes between students and police.

The students were demanding action against a bus conductor who had allegedly manhandled a student.

The situation in the town is still reported to be tense.
