Attack on Nicaraguan policeman

Police in Nicaragua say that gunmen fired shots at the new spokesman for Nicaragua's national police, Carlos Bendana, wounding his ten-year old son.

A police officer Eduardo Cuadra Ferreysaid the attack might be linked to drug traffickers.

Three men have been arrested.

Mr Bendana was suspended last month from his job as Nicaragua's liaison officer with Interpol during an investigation into a plane used by drug smugglers as well as by the Nicaraguan President.
