Weapon found near checkpoint

A rifle has been found near a police checkpoint in County Armagh.

A security alert began on the Ballycrummy road near Armagh shortly before 2130 GMT on Wednesday.

Police officers saw an object being thrown from a car after it turned away from a checkpoint.

Army bomb disposal experts were called to the scene and a search of the area was carried out.

Security sources are linking the weapon to republicans.
