Ghana admits Nigerian opposition met in Accra

Ghana has acknowledged that groups opposed to the Nigerian government held a meeting in the capital, Accra, last month 6th - 8th May, but said there was no official participation in the talks.

The Ghanaian Minister of State for national security, Kofi Totobi, said Ghana would not allow its territory to be used for any unfriendly act against Nigeria.

He said the meeting was attended by delegates from a US non-governmental organisation, International Human Rights Law Group, and by two South Africans.

The Ghanaian government had earlier strongly denied allegations that it was plotting to destabilise Nigeria by hosting a meeting which agreed to support a campaign of civil disobedience by the Nigerian opposition.
