Rioting hits Indian city

Police in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad say at least three people have been killed and about forty others wounded in communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims.

A spokesman said police opened fire in several different places to disperse rioters who attacked one another with swords, knives and stones.

A curfew has been imposed in parts of Hyderabad.

Correspondents say the trouble began on Friday after a provocative leaflet had been circulated.
