A court in Britain has jailed an Asian couple for kidnapping and drugging their daughter in an attempt to send her to Pakistan.

The court heard how the couple, gave their daughter a drugged drink before taking her to the airport at Manchester.

There she regained consciousness and raised the alarm.

The prosecution said the girl, a university student, had been under pressure to go to Pakistan to have an arranged marriage, but had refused.

Her father was jailed for two years; her mother for six months.
