Liberia denies Sierra Leone arms ban violation

Liberia has denied that it allowed weapons for the ousted military regime in Sierra Leone to pass through its territory, in violation of the UN embargo.

The allegation was made on Thursday by detained members of the regime.

But the Liberian foreign minister, Monie Captan, speaking at the OAU meeting in Ouagadougousaid his country's borders with Sierra Leone were controlled at the time by troops from the West African intervention force, ECOMOG -- so if arms got through, it was their responsibility.
