Reports from Yemen say troops exchanged fire with villagers in the south of the country after a motorist was shot dead at a checkpoint.

Eye-witnesses said at least three people were killed and four wounded in the clashes near the town of Ad Dali.

The troops were reportedly backed by armoured vehicles.
