Jordanian journalist arrested

The Jordanian authorities have arrested the editor-in-chief of a satirical weekly magazine.

Colleagues of the journalist, Hussein al-Amoush, said he was taken into custody on Wednesday.

They said no reason had been given for his detention.

Mr al-Ammoush's magazine -- Abed Rabbo -- was one of several publications that were forced to close when a controversial new press law was introduced in Jordan last year.

The magazine resumed publication earlier this year after the Jordanian supreme court ruled that the ban was unconstitutional.
