The American government has airlifted nearly two-hundred of its nationals from Asmara.

The British government is sending an aircraft from Cairo, and says it's working with other countries to arrange other flights out.

Meanwhile, the Eritrean Foreign Minister, Haile Weltensae, says Ethiopia has given his government seven days to cut its diplomatic presence in Addis Ababa to three people, and to close two consulates.
