Spaniards line up for French Open final

Alex Carretja: meets Carlos Moya in the final

The men's final of the French Open will be a battle between two Spaniards after Alex Corretja defeated Cedric Pioline to join Carlos Moya.

Corretja dominated throughout the second semi-final played on Friday winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on a hot, humid court.

Moya earlier took out another fellow countryman Felix Mantilla 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to secure his own place in the final.

Pioline - who had hoped to become the first Frenchman to clinch the title since Yannick Noah in 1983 - looked exhausted as he bowed out.

It had taken Carretja less than an hour to secure both the first and second set. The third fell in only 38 minutes.

Walking off court, Corretja said: "I saw he was very tired. It was very difficult for him, but for me it was very good."

Moya had a greater struggle to unseat Mantilla but his thundering serve combined with drop shots won through eventually.

Mantilla took a 4-1, but Moya came back to win the next five games, losing just five points during that span and wresting control of the match.

He said afterwards: "I just decided to take more risks than I was taking before.

"I decided there had to be a change, otherwise that set was for him. Two set to one down, it's tough to come back."
