Kashmiri separatists welcome Geneva meeting

Leaders of the separatist all-party Hurriyat conference in Indian Kashmir have generally welcomed the resolution agreed by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council concerning India and Pakistan.

The five powers, who were meeting in Geneva to discuss India and Pakistan's nuclear tests, said efforts to resolve disputes between the two countries -- including the issue of Kashmir -- should be pursued with determination.

The leader of the Hurriyat conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, said the meeting had left him hopeful, but he stressed that the Kashmiri people need to be involved for there to be meaningful talks to end the dispute.
