China criticises Indian defence minister

China has attacked India's defence minister, George Fernandes, accusing him of inventing the threat of Chinese aggression as an excuse for conducting nuclear tests.

An article in the Liberation Army Daily referred to comments by Mr Fernandes last month when he defended India's nuclear policy.

The paper said Mr Fernandes had continously upheld an anti-China stance, and supported military expansionism.
