Chinese town fights mosquitos

Officials in the remote town of Golmud, in north-west China, are resorting to extreme measures to combat a plague of mosquitos.

A plane has been hired to spray pesticide over the city in a month-long blitz.

Officials say popular support for the measure is so high that even loss-making local companies have contributed to the one-hundred-thousand dollar cost of the flights.

Scientists however have expressed concern, and there's been a warning that the spraying could damage the local ecology.
