Peru and Ecuador officials to meet in Buenos Aires

Senior representatives from Peru and Eduador are due to hold informal meetings today in Buenos Aires in an attempt to make progress on a lasting peace settlement.

The officials are expected to discuss the agenda for formal meetings later this month in Buenos Aires between two negotiating commissions - on trade and navigation.

The two sides, who clashed in early 1995 over a region of the Amazon forest, missed a deadline at the end of May for concluding an accord.
