The Sound of Music star is the latest big-name signing for the London show which features Phillip Schofield in the title role and opens on July 14. But the 61-year-old stage and film legend won't sing or even be seen: she's providing the voice for Polynesia, a remote-controlled parrot.
A dispute between the Oscar-winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and Hollywood studio Warner Brothers is set to reach the American courts. The 59-year-old director has brought a legal action alleging that Warner Brothers sabotaged his plans to make a new film version of Pinocchio. The studio claims it was willing to fund the ill-fated project until it discovered Coppola was negotiating with a rival film company.
A plea from Luciano Pavarotti has failed to get all five Spice Girls to sing at his charity concert next week. The remaining four Spice Girls will keep their promise to sing with the opera megastar next Tuesday. Pavarotti himself may have to take the place of departed Spice Geri Halliwell. The girls are to perform at the fourth of of his Modena War Child concerts in aid of children affected by war.
Boyzone hunk Shane Lynch celebrated his family's domination of the pop charts with hugs all round. The family managed a pop double Boyzone topped the album charts with new LP Where We Belong. And his twin sisters Keavy and Edele Lynch of B*Witched debuted at the top of the singles chart with their first single C'Est La Vie. "We've had a bit of a hug and then congratulated each other," Shane said.
Singer Billy Joel has cancelled a concert with Sir Elton John tonight because of ill-health. The American singer-songwriter has been laid low by an asthma attack he suffered at the pair's open air Glasgow concert earlier this week. "I feel terrible about this," Billy Joel said. Joel and Sir Elton are due to appear at Wembley Stadium this weekend. |
