Thursday, June 4, 1998 Published at 00:24 GMT 01:24 UK Entertainment Geri in talks with BBC ![]() Geri and the BBC have been in talks The former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has been talking to the BBC about a possible television presenting role. Discussions are said to be at a formative stage and, as yet, there is no sign what direction a TV role might take for the ex-pop star. A spokeswoman for the corporation confirmed that talks had taken place since Geri - known as Ginger Spice - left the group last week. "The channels are open but there is nothing concrete," said the spokeswoman.
The news came as it was revealed that a heart-felt plea from the celebrated opera singer, Luciano Pavarotti, had failed to reunite Geri with her former band members for a one-off charity concert. The remaining girls will keep their promise to sing with the Italian tenor during a star-studded show on Tuesday. Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Stevie Wonder are among the other big names booked for the concert, in aid of the War Child charity.
Some reports suggested she had been talking to TV executives before making the split, with an eye to organising a back-up career. The BBC spokeswoman said there had been no specific role mentioned for Geri and the discussions had been simply about her plans. |
