OAS meeting ends in Venezuela

The Organisation of American States has concluded its general assembly in Venezuela.

During the three-day meeting, several countries, in particular Mexico, suggested the OAS should examine ways of readmitting Cuba which was expelled in 1962.

But the United States once again insisted Cuba would not be allowed to return until it underwent a democratic transition.

Correspondents say the OAS meeting has been criticised for not dealing with the region's most pressing problems.
