One dead, two injured in prison

A man has been found dead and two others were stabbed at Wayland Prison, near Watton, in Norfolk.

The dead man, who was in his 40s, was discovered by another inmate in the television room of the jail.

In what is thought to be a separate incident, two men were being treated for stab wounds after a fight in the prison.

It happened after a fight in the building's A-Wing. Both men are being treated at a hospital in Norwich.

Wayland Prison is a category C jail, where criminals who have committed a wide range of offences, are housed. Its most famous resident is gangland killer Reggie Kray, who was refused parole recently after more than 30 years in jail.

It contains about 500 inmates, a figure not considered "unusually high."

Police had visited the scene of both incidents and an investigation is under way.
