Eritrea accuses Ethiopia of escalating border conflict

The Eritrean government says its border conflict with Ethiopia has entered a new and dangerous phase.

The foreign affairs ministry in Asmara accused Ethiopia of attacking its positions inside its territory early today in Ambesete Geleba, saying it was the fourth attack in less than two weeks.

Both sides have admitted clashes took place on Sunday and Monday, although they give different accounts of areas and casualties.

Eritrea and Ethiopia have continued to mass troops and armoured vehicles along their joint border since accusing each other of invading their territories early last month.

Yesterday, the Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi, proposed deploying an intervention force of troops from the new Community of Sahel-Saharan States, or Comessa.
