Gazza not the only drunk, says Seaman

Gazza: his World Cup hopes have taken a knock

England goalkeeper David Seaman says Paul Gascoigne was not the only player to get drunk the night before they were told who would be in the World Cup squad.

Seaman: "Paul was inconsolable"
Gazza, dropped by coach Glenn Hoddle, admitted he had got drunk "quickly" during a karaoke night at the team's hotel in Spain.

But Seaman, interviewed in The Mirror, says: "The party was for everyone to let their hair down. Paul, like the rest of us, hadn't had a drink for a week and he got drunk pretty quickly because of it.

"But we were all having a few drinks. It wasn't a wild night. There was no one else in the bar apart from us.

"Quite a few of the other lads were drunk too. It was not an issue."

Seaman also said how 31-year-old Gascoigne burst into tears in his hotel room after being told he was not in the 22 to go to France.

The Arsenal keeper said he and Liverpool's Paul Ince tried in vain to comfort the Middlesbrough midfielder.

"It was a sight I won't forget in a hurry. Paul was just inconsolable. He was crying his eyes out and there was nothing either Incey or me could say to make him feel better.

"The tears started to well up in my own eyes, I don't mind admitting."
