Humby's of Fareham supplied the pies 18 months ago but is still waiting for the bill to be paid. The pies were given away to fans as a Christmas present.

Portsmouth has offered to pay £250 of the bill, but a judge at Portsmouth County Court ordered the club to pay the outstanding amount within 30 days.

Humby's managing director Stefan Charidge said: "We are considering either sending in the bailiffs or taking the matter to the High Court. We are within our rights to pursue either course."

Portsmouth is facing a financial crisis in the wake of the departure of Terry Venables, the former England coach, who stepped down as chairman of the south coast club.

Portsmouth director Peter Hinkinson, who was appointed following the departure of Venables in January this year, said: "This is one of the things I inherited when I arrived. Payment is now in the pipeline."

Portsmouth narrowly avoided relegation from the First Division last season.
