Wednesday, June 3, 1998 Published at 05:21 GMT 06:21 UK World: S/W Asia Final phase of Indian general election Voting is taking place today in two remote areas of India for parliamentary seats which may affect the slender majority of the Hindu nationalist-led government. The voting is the final phase of the country's protracted general election which saw the government come to power ten weeks ago. The two remote and often snowbound Himalayan constituencies, Ladakh and Mandi, were not able to vote earlier because of severe winter weather. A third seat in a by-election in Punjab is also being contested. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
