British backpacker Benjamin Jones, 19, suffered a broken nose, severe swelling and pain after Gallagher allegedly headbutted him in Brisbane. The singer was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and released on bail of 10,000 Australian dollars (£3,764). Gallagher did not enter a plea and had been due to return to Australia for the trial next week. Jones has now decided not to go ahead with the case. Queensland Director of Public Prosecutions Royce Miller said: "The complainant doesn't wish to proceed with the criminal prosecution and will pursue civilly. "He has asked through his solicitors in London for the charge to be dropped." Gallagher's Australian lawyer Terry O'Gorman added that he had been informed Jones intended to "pursue his civil remedies" through the UK courts. |
