The Mexican authorities say police have captured two of the country's most wanted drug-traffickers and dismantled the biggest synthetic drug operation in Mexico.

Brothers Luis and Jesus Amezcua, who were known as the kings of methamphetamines, or speed, were arrested on charges of money-laundering and criminal association.

The two men are also wanted in the United States on drug-trafficking charges.

An estimated two-thirds of Colombian cocaine smuggled into the US goes through Mexico, which has also become a major production and distribution centre for methamphetamines.
