Guyana's presidential poll was fair

An independent audit of Guyana's presidential election six months ago has found no evidence that fraud contributed to the victory of Janet Jagan and her People's Progressive party.

A report by a seven-member team from the Caribbean Community, Caricom, said their re-count varied only slightly from the official results.

The outcome was bitterly contested by the opposition People's National Congress, sparking several days of rioting and looting in the capital, Georgetown.

The audit was part of a peace agreement between the parties brokered by Caricom in January
