Death sentences in Equatorial Guinea

A military tribunal in Equatorial Guinea has sentenced fifteen people to death for separatist attacks in January, in which the geovernment said five people were killed.

Officials said the defendants were convicted of terrorism, treason and illegal possession of weapons.

They said more than fifty people were sentenced to prison terms ranging from six to over twenty years, and a number of other defendants were released.

January's attacks took place on Equatorial Guinea's main island of Bioko, where the indigenous Bubi population is fighting for self-determination.
