Five-million-dollar gambling spree ends in court

The High Court in London has heard how the Saudi Arabian businessman, Adnan Khashoggi, lost nearly five million dollars during a two-week gambling spree at the Ritz casino twelve years ago.

The Ritz is sueing Mr Khashoggi for more than twelve million dollars, which includes interest on the debt.

Lawyers for the casino say a Swiss bank refused to honour cheques signed by Mr Kashoggi.

He has argued that the Ritz acted illegally by allowing him to play roulette on credit.
