Israelis demolish Palestinian buildings in East Jerusalem

Israeli police and troops have demolished several Palestinian buildings in Jerusalem, which the authorities said had been built without permission.

A spokesman said four factories beyond Jerusalem's municipal boundaries were torn down, together with two houses under construction in the traditionally Arab quarter of East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Higher Education Minister, Hanan Ashrawi, condemned the demolitions and said they would bring about more conflict and violence.
