Shares in the FTSE 100 edged higher at the start of trade, lifted by HSBC and Siebe and a healthy start to futures trading. HSBC shares were boosted by positive trading in Hong Kong, while Siebe shares managed to rebound after Tuesday's fall on the back of latest results and news of planned job cuts. Dealers said they expected investors to remain cautious and volumes low in the absence of any meaningful lead from other international markets. The FTSE 100 was 10.4 points higher at 5852.7 at 0843 local time (0743 GMT). |
