Officials say five killed near Algiers airport

Security forces in Algeria say they shot dead five Islamic militants after storming their hideout near Algiers international airport.

An army officer said the attack in the Bab Ezzouar district, south-east of Algiers followed a twenty-hour stand-off with the militants.

According to one report, a soldier was also killed in the assault.

On Saturday, security forces said they had killed six Islamic militants during an earlier operation in the same area.
