Romario dropped from Brazil World Cup Squad

FOOTBALL: Brazil's internationally renowned striker, Romario, has been forced to withdraw from the country's World Cup squad, just days before the finals begin in France.

The Brazilian team coach, Mario Zagallo, told a press conference in Paris that he had failed to recover from an calf muscle injury.

Correspondents say Romario is widely regarded as the hero of Brazil's victorious 1994 World Cup squad.

He'd been expected to partner Brazil's other star striker Ronaldo in this month's competition.
