The Brazilian team coach, Mario Zagallo, told a press conference in Paris that he had failed to recover from an calf muscle injury. Correspondents say Romario is widely regarded as the hero of Brazil's victorious 1994 World Cup squad. He'd been expected to partner Brazil's other star striker Ronaldo in this month's competition.
