EU delegation in Great Lakes

A European Union delegation is in Rwanda on the second leg of a visit to the Great Lakes region of Africa.

The delegation, led by British Foreign Office Minister Tony Lloyd, first had talks in Kampala with President Museveni of Uganda.

In Rwanda, the three-member delegation has met the President, Pasteur Bizimungu and the Defence Minister, Paul Kagame, but no details of the talks have emerged.

The team is to travel on to Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Before leaving London, Mr Lloyd said the mission would develop relations between the EU and the region and concentrate on promoting respect for the rule of law, democracy and human rights, and economic development.
