Only a day after winning the post of Mayor of Londonderry, Joe Miller is ready to quit the job.
The former RUC officer is likely to give up his newly-gained position as a protest at the nationalist-controlled council's decision to make a Sinn Fein member his deputy.
Mr Miller, 46, is a member of Ian Paisley's Democratic Unionist Party, who was born and raised in the Catholic Bogside area of Londonderry.
He quit his police job because he opposed the 1985 Anglo-Irish agreement.
If he goes ahead and gives up his role as a public servant as he is expected to do on Tuesday, his term is likely to be remembered mainly for its brevity.
