Indonesian court drops bombing charges against East Timorese students

An Indonesian court has ordered the release of four East Timorese students charged with making and storing explosives.

The court, in Semarang, central Java, said the charges were not supported by evidence.

The students are reported to have been arrested following an explosion at a residential complex in Semarang in l997.

About sixty protestors are reported to have demonstrated outside the court against the Indonesian military presence in East Timor, which was annexed by Jakarta in l976.
