Fighting Afghan North

Heavy fighting is reported at several frontlines in north Afghanistan.

The main Taleban spokesman, Mullah Mutaqi, said the opposition alliance had taken the district of Ghormach in Baghis province.

He said Taleban fighters retreated after troops loyal to General Dostam launched what he called a strong attack.

Mullah Mutaqi said the opposition had also mounted an offensive further east, at Bangi on the border between Kunduz and Takhar.

He said there had been heavy fighting but no change in the frontlines.
