Russian coastguards say they have detained thirteen North Korean fishing boats in Russian territorial waters in the Bering Sea.

Russia's border guard service said the boats had been fishing illegally, and were now being escorted to the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Correspondents say Russian coastguards regularly clash with foreign fishing boats, but incidents involving North Korean fishermen are rare.
