Is this the end for the Spice Girls? Your reaction
The Spice Girls were bad to begin with but now they will be even worse. They can't sing, they can't dance and I think Geri was the best out of them anyway.
Helen Towers, England
I don't think one less Spice Girl will make any difference. They were all dead weight within the group, and it makes me sick when you talk about this like it's Paul McCartney leaving The Beatles. The Spice Girls will go, and hardly anyone will care. But a single member who didn't contribute anything to the "group" except at press conferences won't break them up. More likely the fact that they didn't even know each other before a corporation threw them together will lead them to argue and disband (Wouldn't that be a shame?), just like nearly every other prefabricated group that thinks they can conquer the world and overshadow the real musicians out there. And if I'm wrong and Geri really was that important, good riddance. The sooner I can turn on the radio without hearing that Spice Girls rubbish, the better.
Geri's departure from the group was apparently bad chemistry with the other Spice Girls. Now that Geri has left, people are not really aware of the REAL reason as to why she left and Geri is being mocked and hated for leaving the Spice Girls. I am sure that this is VERY hard on the Spice Girls themselves, and they have vowed to continue their tour in the US. I strongly believe that the fans that bought the tickets should STILL give the Spice Girls all the support that they need so that the Spice Girls will be able to continue their jobs and most importantly, feel confident about themselves.
As a gay man, I sympathise with Geri's loss, as she was a gay icon. I myself am "Geri" in a drag tribute band, and feel her loss most intensely. However, I believe that the girls can pick themselves up and carry on regardless. I myself will continue in the tribute band, and have not let Geri's leaving deter me. All the girls are very talented and are an inspiration to young and old, gay or straight. I sincerely hope that this is not the end.
Geri was just one part of what Girl Power is all about. Granted, she had a dominating personality, but the show must go on, even without her.
Geri is making an unfortunate career choice that she will regret, as many others in her position in the past have done the same as her (see pop music history) who NOW regret their actions deeply. She at least should have toughed out the tour.
I'm heartbroken over Geri's departure but Spice without Geri is better then no Spice at all. I just hope she'll be back!
It's not over until the fans and the rest of the Spice Girls say it's over. Just because Geri left doesn't mean that the rest of them can't control the group themselves. Geri didn't control the direction of the band, they all did.
I have to be honest, I am not a fan of the Spice Girls, and well, I am only being somewhat sarcastic when I say I am happy for the UK and the rest of the commonwealth nations to hear that they might be breaking up. So, at the risk of this turning into a "flame" against them, I am pleased as punch to hear that Geri "Ginger Spice" Haliwell has left for what she may see as greener pastures.
I think the Spice Girls will carry on because they are strong women, and sound good no matter what. At least I hope so because I have concert tickets for the one in July in Pittsburgh.
Well surely they are talented and magnetic in their field of music, but I would say the Spice Girls will not be the same without Geri. She is the backbone attraction for the girls. It would be wrong to say that they will not stay together anymore. Because they are talented they will go on but they must now focus on their music more and try to make it happen with their music and not with their looks! I am a fan of their music. I really like them and I hope that they continue to create an era of new spiced up music. I like them and pray that they go on.
Geri quit the Spice Girls. She was my favorite Spice. She was the one saying "Girl Power" is sticking together. But look who's leaving now? It's not fair. Many fans are heartbroken because of it. A lot of girls looked up to her. "Girl power" is not girl power unless you stick together and never leave until there is no way of succeeding. And she had it very easy too. She said she made a mistake for modeling in that nasty magazine. She said she'd never make another mistake like that again. But she has made another mistake. She said she quit because of their differences, but that's what made them so great...what does she expect? Them to be exactly the same? I guess she's not what her fans expected her to be. I pray some day she will come back and restore her place as Ginger Spice AGAIN... Regain all her fans again... Never quit again... until there is no luck, hope, or fans. At least the rest of the Spice Girls still bond...still stick together... even though Geri has left which left them heartbroken. THEY WILL STILL GO ON!!! As they state in the song "Wanna be" "Friendship never ends"!!!!
I heard that Posh is getting married so they will probably leave one by one until they vanish.
I really really don't think that the Spice Girls will end. Yeah it is a bit sad but we've heard them say themselves that nothing goes on forever. I honestly think that it is up to the public to decide their "fate". If it was up to me I would keep them up in the charts only because I love their whole attitude and image. Maybe Geri just had enough and decided to leave. Maybe she'll come back later on. It is her decision and we should not be
judgemental about it. I thought it was really sad but then I just got on with my life. I'm really
curious to see who is going to take her place. That will be interesting to me and I think to the other fans as well. I think we want to see what the old and new music will sound like. I wish them all the luck in the world and that does include Geri. My saying is 'whatever floats your boat'. Good luck girls.
She added such a "pep" to the group. It's still a group w/out her, but four is just not enough. She is the fifth element, and I pity the band for even trying to make it without her. Farewell Geri, but as you journey through life, just remember that you have destroyed four others.
Frankly my dear(s), I don't give a damn! Girls, be your own heroes for a change.
I think it's horrible how Melanie B "scary" Spice treated Geri Haliwell. I do not blame Geri for leaving the group. She could only tolerate so much mistreatment from Melanie and the other girls. I wish Geri much success and lots of love.
Since the Spice Girls don't sing or write their own songs, or even make up their own dances, the Spice Girls can add in Geri's voice with computers, because obviously, that is not her real voice. They alter and add pitches to it by computers. The only things that will be different are performances and interviews, because Geri won't be there.
The Spice Girls will probably finish their World Tour, but after that, I'll put a big question mark against them.
Good riddance to bad rubbish! Have you noticed that the articulate and amusing comments are coming from those who despise the "band"? God, it makes me long for the Belle Stars, Bananarama, and Voice of the Beehive; and even Fuzzbox and Shampoo!
I'm sure the Spice Girls will do just fine without Geri. The main thing that they've lost, however, is her unlimited enthusiasm. I do hope that she comes back, but for the moment, I think that the other four Spices will continue their success.
It seems childish for Geri to leave a group that many love so much, especially so many young people.
As excellent role models for lesbians everywhere, I for one hope that this is not the end as they still have a role to play in our society. In showing young girls that they are in charge of their own destiny, I believe that I may never have come out had it not been for the Spice Girls and I am sure that I am not the only girl out there inspired to do something by them. In a world dominated by boring blokes like Noel and Liam Gallagher, these girls are a breath of fresh air.
The Spice Girls were a manufactured band, there is no reason why they can not find an equally bubbly replacement for Geri. It is, however possible that the famous five of girl power will go the same way as formar pop idols Take That. The future of the band is dependent on their fans.
The Spice Girls were dreadful WITH Geri, and they'll be dreadful WITHOUT her too.
I think it was a real disappointment because I was so close to seeing her in person at their upcoming tour.
Now I feel I'm being cheated because there's one less spice.
Geri was definitely the spiciest but 4 combined, are much more potent. The Spice Girls have only begun.
They will succeed.
I think Geri will eventually
return to the Spices. After all,
even the best of friends have spats and then get back together.
Though the Spice Girls have potential they are NOT the best role models anyone could ask for but you can't blame them for trying. I for one think the Spice Girls can go on as long as they keep making money!!
I think I should take some time to say " Way to go Geri!!". And good job breaking out of that little air headed club.
P.S. If the Spice girls are not gay wich I seriously doubt, they sure act like it.
And if this anybody "Wake up!!!"
"..Girl Power; Feminism..Girls Rule" - that quote is what the Spice Girls base themselves on. Now that Geri has left the group, doesn't that mean she isn't living up to what she believes in? I'm sure the group will go on without her but what effect will this have on all the people who truly believe in "Girl Power"? Geri has the right to leave, but she should have thought of all the people that believed in her, and she should have thought of her friends in the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls will probably do fine without Geri but she left them at a time when they are just about to start their US tour, and that, to me, is so irresponsible.
Spice girls can and will live on. Geri, was never the one with the most talent, though must admit she had the push that partly attributed to their success. But, they can move on.....the fans want more music from them. And I am sure they still have a lot more to give.
They´ll go on for quite some time. There´s too much money at stake for any of the four of those girls left to quit as well. They´ll keep trying for at least another six months or so. And who blames them? It´s just another pop-group getting the best out of that huge teen-audience´s consuming powers...Maybe they´ll start their own brand of "Pepsi" -cola, call it "Spice-cola"...It would sell! At least for a while. But we all know women - they can´t agree upon anything if there´s more than four of them, or maybe three.
I was so shocked at Geri's decision that I cried. I may be 17 years old, but I still fell in love with the Girls when they came to the United States. I don't think they'll be able to survive without Geri and I am not looking forward to going to 2 of their concerts here in California because I'll be too sad to enjoy them. I wish Geri had never done this.
I believe it is not
the end of the Spice Girls. The
Spice Girls will live
on without Geri, even
though their music will
not sound the same.
I don't think that the Spice Girls will break up, however, I am sad that Geri has left the group. I don't think it will ever be the same, but I will always remember her because I have the CDs with her voice on it.
I know a very disappointed and miserable 8-year-old who loved Geri the most of the Spice Girls because she had red hair too.
Truthfully, it is doubtful that most of the Spice Girls' younger fans could identify her vocals on their albums, but children look up to her regardless.
That being said said, I spotted two pre-teens sporting Spice Girls t-shirts with masking tapeover Geri's face. Perhaps this is not going to affect the groups' popularity as much as people seem to think..
It would have been nice of her to at least stay to the end of the North American tour.
I think that Ginger DID have all the personality. All the personality of a three day old ham sandwich, that is. I am saddened by the remainder of the group's decision to continue.
No, I don´t think so. But I do
think that Geri is will be
more successful than the other
girls.
Geri was the prettiest, but as far as singing you barely heard her. She has no rhythm either. I think the 4 girls will do fine. Sporty probably has the best voice.
They just need a replacement for Geri. I know where they can get one!
I think that the Spice Girls have enough will power and Girl Power to go on without Geri. I was devastated at the news but know in my heart that the Spice Girls won't let their fans including me down. Therefore the Spice Girls will live ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!!
A 13 year old fan!
They were a "pre-fab" group. Part of the formula has been lost.
I don't think that it really mattered if Geri (Ginger) was the star or not as far the Spice Girls were concerned. What did matter though was that she was a part of the group, a link in the chain, and even with one link missing the chain will fall apart. So my personal opinion is that Ginger's departure spells DOOM for the Spice Girls.
I'm glad for the rest of the girls. Scary, Posh, et al deserve someone with less 'michelin' tires around her midsection. Besides, the key to 90's success and self-preservation is SELF-KNOWLEDGE. So, if your waistline is less than 25 inches, then, one must not wear the Kate Moss-only outfits Miss Haliwell indulges herself in. And her voice...please !
I'm really going to miss Geri - I thought she was the most talented one in the band...
I think the Spice Girls have been a product of marketing and is bound to come to an end sooner rather than later. Had their success been built on musical talents, the story would have been different.
I think Geri is the
best Spice Girl ever.
Although the others will
continue without her,
they lost the drive
and voice of the band
when she left.
Mel B should be ashamed
of herself, putting Geri
down when she tried
harder than the rest.
Geri, you're the best, go get 'em
girl, we're all behind you!
I think that the Spice Girls will go on without Geri.
When you are multitalented like the rest of the four girls, it won't be hard.
But I am sorry that Geri left.
I always said that she was their "mother" in some sorts.
But the Spice Girls will live on.
GIRL POWER!!
I don't think it's the end of the Spice Girls, and quite frankly I'm tired of everyone comparing this departure to the one of Robbie from Take That. Two completely different groups, different circumstances. Girl Power will live on with the Spice Girls as they continue their career as music artists. Whether Geri comes back is her business, as is why she left.
It CAN'T be the end for the Spice Girls, if they split then every company with whom they have an advertising contract would sue their collective derričre off.
Frankly, I could care less. In my opinion, the Spice Girls are nothing more than a marketing gimmick. If one were to quantify the Spice Girl's infulence on the music indoustry, one would conclude the Girls have done little more than elevate the use of sex to market vacuous, insipid "product." The musical equivalent of American Cheese, and the success of which is based purely on the number of "units sold."
The Spice Girls will make no lasting contribution to music as an art form. What's more, when the daily blitz of sexy Spice Girls images are separated from thier music, it is obvious, they will make no lasting contribution to music as a from of entertinment either.
There are very few things that excite me more in this world than the vision of a sexy young woman, but let's not confuse that with music.
Everyone's asking if the Spice Girls can survive without Ginger. Personally I would like to know if they could survive without oxygen.
Yes, the Spice Girls will soon lose their popularity unless they can patch things up with Geri. Geri was the 'spiciest' Spice Girl, and her departure leaves a hole in the group. Come on girls, make up! The five of you are heroines to many young girls - show them that 'friendship never ends' - or doesn't have to.
I hope this is the end. The talentless and prefabricated Spice Girls symbolize all that has gone astray in pop music in the last decade. Goodbye to bimbos who substitute glitter and image for substance and creative vision - maybe now the door will open for someone with genuine ability and something vital to say. George Harrison, as usual, was right!
Are all those pathetic Spice Girls fans who are crying about the departure of Ginger Spice honestly expecting us to believe that the only reason millions of people have bought their records over the past two years was because of Geri? Admittedly, she did seem to be the group's leader but only in the sense that she had the loudest voice and the shortest dresses. I have nothing against Geri, and I wish her all the best in whatever she does, but I do not believe that the Spice Girls will wither away without her. Without meaning any offence, she was not the greatest singer or dancer, she even admitted so herself, and contributed mainly to the performance side of the group, and if the other four can fill that gap, then they will almost certainly continue their remarkable run of success.
Again, good luck to all of them.
Geri couldn't leave us now.... WE LOVE HER!!!! Please Geri, don't leave us ALONE!!!!
The USA was "girl power" free until recently. Let's hope it goes back to being so.
I am very upset about Geri's decision even though she was not my favourite. But I still think that it won't be the same without her.
The best thing they can do now is audition! It would take the heat off and would be a great PR stunt. Not "where's old Spice?" but "who's New Spice"? Now if I was their manager....
Heroes may come and go, but legends never die! The Spice Girls may have ended in the media's eye, but the true fans will always keep the vibe alive!
Oh come one. Advertise today: girl needed; no talent required, just needs to be a quick learner; all necessary props provided. She'll have learned the words and dance routines with plenty of time to spare for the US tour. What's the big problem?
Although I was a fan of Ginger's I very much doubt that her leaving the band will have an impact music-wise. I think the real fans will stick by the band and know that we have just lost a personality and not a talent. Good luck Ginger and Rock On SPICE GIRLS!!!!!!
The Spice Girls were the flavour of the month that kept repeating on you. Never very clever, never having anything important to say, and not hip or groundbreaking. At least Malcolm McLaren's scams were/are fun and tended not to overstay their welcome - Bow Wow Wow fortunately excepted, and their talented lead singer Annabella Lu Win who I saw on The Mike Bullard Show a few weeks ago. It was real and exciting. She could blow any of the Spice Girls out of the water. Same goes for Sarah McLauchlan, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and Ani Di Franco. My reaction to the Spice Girls and their one-track, nebulous, behind the times manifesto of Girl (consumer) Power is good riddance to bad rubbish.
The Spice Girls will have to go on without Geri, but there will always be a part missing from them. I feel that the move Geri made to split with the group backfired against all the girl power she was talking about. How do the Spice Girls relate to their motto "Girl Power, She who dares will win."? Without the whole group together, without them representing unity, who will be there to be our role models, the ones who are brave enough to succeed in such a career and face all people (especially Mel B)? Aren't all the fans out there for Geri? I support the Spice Girls, and with or without Geri they will still have a great effect on our music, but will they stay on top for long?
Is this the end of the Spice Girls? We can only hope! But I doubt it. As long as they continue to smile for photographers, they're here to stay. And let's face it... that is about it isn't it? I mean... it's not like they actually play instruments and write their own material. All they had to do was answer an ad, be pretty and have an attitude. That's it. Nothing else.
I'm sure the girls will continue as a group. As they said: "Spice Girls are here to stay." Well, the fans will missing Ginger. But we still have our Sporty, Scary, Baby and Posh. I love Geri and all I want is Geri back! Anyways, Spice Girls Forever! Geri will always be our Ginger Spice! I miss her.
All I can say is, I hope so! The Spice Girls have been a continual embarrassment to the music of this country for too long now. I hope they just go away and shut up!
First of all I simply love the Spice Girls and I think that they could go on. I don't really blame Geri for leaving. I mean they don't give her enough credit for what she has done for the group. She thought of the name, the "Girl Power" slogan and she was the leader of them all. She had the most "Girl Power" out of all of them. But don't get me wrong. I was completely shocked and quite confused about this. But now if you think about everything that they've said about their friendship and how they'll always be together, it all just seems useless now. I don't have anything against the Spice Girls since I like them. But I am truly disappointed in what has happened. I'm just hoping that they will work things out.
The Spice Girls won't just disappear because one of them throws a fit and leaves. The way I see it, there are two options: Either the whole scheme is just a ploy to spread their name and encourage record sales, or else the four (or maybe a new 'recruit' later on) will carry on and resume their successes. IMHO, Geri never added much to the troupe's talent except cleavage and a heavy dose of promiscuity, something the others don't flaunt as obnoxiously.
I was very shocked and angered when Geri decided to quit the band. She was always the outspoken one, always claiming that the Spice Girls are the best of friends and nothing would come between them, and of course "Girl Power". Well, if they were best of friends why didn't Geri sort out the problems with the rest of the group? Instead she decided to bow out in the middle of a World Tour and just before a charity concert. That is not a sign of leadership nor respect to her fans and her "best friends", Mel B, Mel C, Emma and Victoria. The other girls will do just fine without Geri, as they proved with their concerts in Norway. I too, have tickets to see them in the USA and I am still looking forward to seeing them perform live. Many critics are saying the Spice Girls will not survive comparing them to the Jackson 5 and the Supremes. Remember the ones who left those groups were the lead singers, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. The Spice Girls still have their best dancer and singer in Mel C. If Mel C decides to call it quits, that's the end of the Spice Girls, but the Spice Girls will not be forgotten as they have left a huge mark in music history. I wish the very best to the Spice Girls and I know they will survive. It looks like Geri didn't have Girl Power after all, but the others still do as they decided to carry on!
Yes. This is the end of the Spice Girls as we have known them. They will have to continue through their tour dates though. For what they were charging for a ticket, there is no way they won't show up to collect. But the more important question, I think, is not whether this is the end of the Spice Girls, but rather, is this the beginning of five stunning solo careers? Yes it is!
When I speak, I'm speaking for my country, I'm glad that Ginger Spice has left, pretty soon another will leave and that will lead to total annihilation of that band. Thank you.
I don't think it is the end, I'm sure the 4 remaining girls can be a huge success if they really want to but I feel they'll quit because they know things will never be the same.
When I think of Girl Power, Geri is the first one who comes to mind. She was the driving force behind the FAB FIVE. They can't go on with out her!
It will be a dissapointment to the younger fans, but truthfully GERI was never the powerhouse behind the band. She was a symbol with no talent....spice power will go on!
Hopefully. Marketing, not talent got them where they are today. Hopefully people won't fall for any more manufactured rubbish.
In all honesty, I think that she will be back. She is in obvious need of a break. Truthfully, they all are. Its a HUGE task to take on when you decide to go on a world tour.
If she decides not to come back at all, I think that the Spices will become closer. And the GIRL POWER will be stronger than ever. They have come this far, and I don't think
that they are about to give up now. Maybe that's my warped way of looking at it, call it positivity. These girls have accomplished what some may call impossible. I really hate
to see Geri go this way, she was a role model for a lot of people. They have all dedicated a huge amount to this. But I dont think that they are going anywhere. Even if they
do, and I'm totally wrong, they will always live on. What they have accomplished will never be surpassed. But I believe that Geri will be back. We as fans need to let them know
that we need her, and so do they. Let's use some of that FAN POWER!!!
I think Geri really didn't think about what she was doing. I also think that media pressure didn't help. If the Sun et.al. hadn't pressed the story in the first place, she might have got over it and come back into the spices. We still don't know the full story. Maybe that will help in time.
But to end, I do think it's the end. What about all the people who've spent millions on things that are out of date. It makes no sense.
I think, looking at all the pop groups in the past, this indeed will be the end of the 90's Supremes.
Of course not. With the four remaining, there is more than enough Spice to go around!!!
Is this the end for the Spice Girls?
One can only hope...
Ginger is not the lead singer. I think the girls will survive without her!
I do hope it's the end. Whoever accused them of being talented? They were only ever about marketing. Compared to them, the Monkees had musical integrity. Take the money and run, girls. Enjoy obscurity. Bye bye, we won't miss you.
Geri was the sexiest. She was by far the most talented out of all the Spice Girls and I can't imagine the remaining four being able to carry on without her. Geri will obviously go on to be extremely successful but until then she can have my shoulder to cry on.
Does anyone really care and does it really matter? Why is the British public so obsessed with five young not-that-talented girls?
As they were put together by the music industry anyway and weren't real friends, a split was inevitable. They had no real talent anyway, and didn't play any instruments, so they weren't a 'band' either. Good riddance.
The biggest blow to pop since the split of the Beatles.
Does anyone over 16 really care?
For sure this is not the end of the Spice Girls - See you're still talking about them. As long as they stay in the press, they will stay in the spotlight.
Geri or no Geri, the Spices will continue on fine without her. I do feel sad about Geri's departure from the group, but life goes on and it's Geri's decision whether to leave or not. So I wish the best of luck to Geri and the other four, especially since the US tour is soon to begin!
Sad to say, I fear the departure of Geri spells the beginning of the end for the Spice Girls. It isn't so much that Geri will be missed musically (in truth, she was their weakest link) but she was the self-proclaimed "nutter" of the group and brought a spark to the quintet that will be lost forever. In addition, the loss of an original band member and friend is a huge blow to the morale of the Spice Girls. So considering the shock of adapting to life without Geri, plus the many legal and financial headaches brought on by the split, survival for the remaining four Spice Girls is, unfortunately, unlikely. I can only hope I'm wrong. |
